US Teen Severely Beaten By Israeli Security Forces

A trip to visit family in Jerusalem turns into a nightmare for a Florida Teenager who found himself beaten and in the middle of clashes between Israelis and Palestinians.

Now, Israel's justice ministry has launched an investigation into the incident.

A video that shows men wearing Israeli security force uniforms holding down and pummeling a teen. You can see the men beating him, then carrying his limp body away.

15 year old Tariq Khdeir, a U.S. citizen, was visiting his Palestinian relatives in Jerusalem when Friday's attack happened. Relative say the Tampa resident was attending a demonstration after the death of his cousin, Mohammed Abu Khdeir.

The death has sparked a backlash including clashes with police at his funeral on Friday. Authorities are investigating whether the killing was in retaliation for the murders of three Jewish teenagers. Tariq's mother said she could not watch the video of her son's beating.

"I don't want to see the video, I don't want to hear the video.  I don't want to hear it. I don't know what I am going to hear. Am I going to hear him screaming? Am I going to hear him calling for help?" She said. She says she saw her son in the hospital, but he remains in police custody.

Now a U.S. organization is trying to make sure Tariq is getting the help he needs.

A spokeman for Israel's Prime Minister says the incident should be investigated.

The U.S. State Department says it condemns the beating and that an official from the U.S. Consulate has visited the teenager in the hospital.

The Israeli defense forces issued a statement Saturday seeking to distance themselves from the beating.

The statement says "It seems that the Israel Police Forces were involved in the incident, and not the IDF Forces."
