After four years in five-star luxury, Tony Blair is moving out of the American Colony Hotel into a purpose-built seven-storey building now under construction in Sheikh Jarrah: the millionaires' row of East Jerusalem.
The new building will replace the 15 rooms Mr Blair's team rents at the American Colony for more than £1m each year. Since he was appointed as representative of the Middle East Quartet in 2007, his office and accommodation for his dozen-strong staff have been located on the fourth floor of Jerusalem's best known hotel.

Israel threatens to halt Denmark flights
Israel has threatened to halt all direct flights to Denmark after Copenhagen refused to allow Israeli security personnel to perform security checks at the country's main airport.
Tel Aviv had demanded that Israeli security personnel carry out independent security checks on passengers flying from Copenhagen to Tel Aviv on the newly-launched Israeli Arkia Airlines' Copenhagen-Tel Aviv route.
Israel had also demanded that Danish aviation authorities allow armed Israeli guards patrol certain 'Israeli security zones' at Copenhagen's Kastrup Airport. Danish aviation authorities, however, rejected both demands, saying they are in sharp contrast with laws of freedom and human dignity.
Danish authorities offered to allow Israeli personnel to cooperate with Danish security staff in carrying out the security checks for Arkia Airlines, but the Israelis refused the offer.
The two sides held negotiations on the issue over the weekend, but no agreement was reached.
The Israeli decision to halt flights to Denmark is expected to leave thousands of passengers stranded.

Obama administration officials are putting together a team of 'mystery shoppers' to pose as patients, call doctors’ offices and request appointments to see how difficult it is for people to get care when they need it. The move follows increasing alarm over the shortage of primary care doctors.
The administration says the survey will address the shortage and try to discover whether doctors are accepting patients with private insurance while turning away those in government health programmes that pay lower reimbursement rates.
Federal officials predict that more than 30 million Americans will gain coverage under the health care law passed last year.
'These newly insured Americans will need to seek out new primary care physicians, further exacerbating the already growing problem' of a shortage of such physicians in the United States, the Department of Health and Human Services said in a description of the project prepared for the White House.
Plans for the survey have riled many doctors because the secret shoppers will not identify themselves as working for the government.

Wheat has never been a staple food in Kenya but Kenyans are nevertheless, along with wildlife, having their natural habitat increasingly constricted by ever larger wheat fields mandated by the World Bank.
On the east side of Lake Victoria, a mosaic of grassland-woodland, unequaled for its divine splendor, spans Kenya and Tanzania: the Serengeti-Mara plains.
A big game Eden, it contains elephant, hippopotamus, rhinoceros, giraffe, nyati (wrongly called "buffalo"), the giant eland antelope, 2 million cattle-like antelopes called gnu (wildebeest), millions of zebras, gazelles, and the marvelous jumping impalas (the dolphins of savannahs).

Yet just as we are beginning to recognize the tremendous biodiversity found here, along with artistic-scientific teachings and benefits for the human spirit, modernism and multinationals are beginning to reach down.
Summer is a season of plenty, grazers return to Serengeti in October. Lions never want more than they need to. They pick the "best heads," leave part of the meal to many species of animals.
But the remaining 9 months of the year here have changed dramatically since 1990. Gnu, zebra, and other herbivores have declined by 80%. In Sept. 2007 a single lioness was seen at the Olare Orok. In May 2009, lions left Masai-Mara to hunt, sometimes feeding on people's cattle. Some lions are killed by poison, others by herdsmen. The cause is modernism (or globalization).
The Masai were living as nomads in harmony with wildlife. They never killed large numbers of lions, kept from eating game meat, and didn't threaten herbivores. But the Satanists and Satanist-influenced began to persuade them to settle, to form so-called "Group Ranches," a kind of socialist cooperative.
The Group Ranches only marginally affected wildlife in this part of Kenya, until the World Bank decided to plant wheat around the Mara sanctuary. And this wheat was not even intended for consumption by the hungry in Kenya's north, where people have been dependent on food aid for decades.

Britain Looks at Sending Libyan Occupation Force
Britain is preparing to send troops to Libya after Col. Gaddafi is killed or removed, the Mirror reports today. British PM Cameron will have no other options, according to an unnamed source in the government.
On Sunday, British Defense Secretary Liam Fox said nobody in the government said the campaign against Gaddafi would be “short and sharp.” On June 21, PM Cameron said Britain will continue its military campaign in Libya as long as needed.
“I’m absolutely confident that we can keep this pressure up, we can maintain this mission for as long as is necessary,” Cameron told a news conference, according to Reuters.
UK: Banned Islamic fanatic strolls through border controls
A banned Islamic extremist has been allowed to walk through Britain’s border controls unchallenged.
Raad Salah was excluded from the UK last week by Home Secretary Theresa May, on the grounds that he holds hard-line anti-semitic views. But when the political firebrand travelled here at the weekend, border guards, who are supposed to check all passengers against watchlists of fanatics, failed to spot him or turn him away.
Officials face a race against time to stop him making a speech to MPs this week. Left-wing Labour MPs have invited him to give a talk on the Israel-Palestine conflict – an event the Government fears will be a major embarrassment.
Whitehall sources say the Home Secretary, who is determined to take a tough stand against extremists views, is furious at the blunder. Earlier this month, she unveiled the Prevent strategy which said ministers would no longer tolerate those who hold forth on views likely to foster hatred or division.
One possibility is that the UK BorderAgency failed to serve papers on Salah informing him that he had been excluded – effectively a travel ban designed to keep him out of the UK. This could mean he did not know he wasn’t meant to travel. Alternatively, he may have used another name which officials failed to spot.
Either way, it is another massive blow to the reputation of UKBA, long derided as a shambles by MPs. Keeping out terror suspects and extremists on Government watch lists is one of its most vital jobs.
UK: Orange and Vodafone users hit as mobile call charges soar 66 per cent
Mobile phone charges will rise by up to 66 per cent in a punishing new blow for consumers.
Millions of users signed to Orange and Vodafone will be hit with inflation-busting increases in contract and pay-as-you-go tariffs. The moves appear to be a direct retaliation against attempts by watchdogs to crack down on rip-off pricing in the industry. And they come as families are already suffering the biggest squeeze on living costs since the 1870s as price rises have outpaced increases in incomes for four years in a row.
Orange is putting up its minimum call charge for pay-as-you-go customers from 20p to 25p from Friday – a rise of 25 per cent.
Vodafone, meanwhile, is increasing the minimum call charge on some contracts from 15p to 25p – or 66 per cent. These charges apply to calls made outside of those allowed by a customer’s monthly contract. Its pay-as-you-go users will see the cost of a text rise from 10p to 12p, while calls to mobiles and landlines will go up from 21p a minute to 25p. The Vodafone increases take effect on July 14.
They are the latest in a series of increases by the major networks, who had vowed to recoup costs elsewhere if watchdogs in Britain and Europe curbed existing pricing structures.
UK: Food parcels sent to a primary school as migrant farm worker parents keep their own children hungry

Scores of parents sent their children to school without packed lunches in an apparent protest over having their benefits cut. It led to the extraordinary step of a charity having to give out food parcels to the 150 children as their parents, mostly Eastern European migrant workers, did not provide lunches for two weeks. The parents had been employed locally but their contracts had run out. Consequently, their benefits were stopped.
Apparently as a result, they sent their children to the Frederick Bird primary school in Coventry, with no lunch despite them not being eligible for free school meals. To feed the children, the school was forced to dip into an emergency fund, teachers had to make packed lunches and the Coventry Foodbank charity had to hand out food parcels.
Yesterday, critics said it was 'unacceptable' for parents to send their children to school with no food and that it was a 'bizarre' way to protest about losing benefits.

Citing Jewish law as his source (or at least a very selective interpretation of it) he declared: “There is justification for killing babies if it is clear that they will grow up to harm us, and in such a situation they may be harmed deliberately, and not only during combat with adults.”

Why? Because the US-dominated IMF, EU and European Central Bank (ECB), the so-called "Troika," demand it as the price for bailout help that wouldn't be needed if Greece wasn't trapped in the euro straightjacket. Membership means foregoing the right to devalue its currency to make exports more competitive, maintain sovereignty over its money to monetize its debt freely, and be able to legislate fiscal policies to stimulate growth.
Instead they're entrapped by foreign banker diktats demanding tribute. They call it a "rescue." In May 2010, the Papandreou government agreed to earlier austerity in return for loans. Now they're at it again, demanding more or they'll collapse the entire economy, or so they say. And the same scheme is replicated in Ireland and Portugal. Moreover, it's heading for Spain, and potentially most of Europe and America as representative governments head closer to "financial oligarchy."

He wants to make our lives more inconvenient to save the planet from alleged climate change but the Prince refuses to make any changes in his own life.
The film points out how Prince Charles, with his wife and a staff of 14 flew more than 16,000 miles around south America to "warn about the dangers of climate change". Instead of a small private jet Prince Charles traveled on a giant Airbus (normal capacity 134 passengers) that was converted into a luxury private plane.

The absurdity of many US government recommendations would be humorous if not for the millions of Americans that take them seriously. The latest pseudo-scientific nonsense being peddled by Big Brother is the US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) ignorant claim that sunlight is dangerous, and that only "broad spectrum" sunscreens that block basically every type of sun ray from penetrating the skin are capable of preventing skin cancer and other alleged sun-induced diseases.
The FDA's recent announcement deals primarily with a significant change insunscreenlabeling, but the devil is in the details as the agency purports in its press release that thesunis dangerous and must be avoided. The agency would rather have every American lather on a coating oftoxic, chemical-laden sunscreen than risk the chance that even a single ray of "damaging' sunshine penetrate theirskin.
Such nonsense, of course, has been debunked by a host ofscientific studiesin recent years. Not only issunlight exposureabsolutely vital for maintaining healthy levels of vitamin D in the body, but a lack of it can lead to serious illnesses like multiple sclerosis, cognitive decline, bone loss, and even cancer. At least 60 people died in a suicide bombing just 25 miles from Kabul yesterday. In a few days' time, a report on Afghanistan from the International Crisis Group will say that violence and the billions of dollars in international aid have brought wealthy officials and insurgents together. As a result, "the economy is increasingly dominated by a criminal oligarchy of politically connected businessmen".
The negatives column in the Afghan war's balance sheet does not get any shorter. So far, the conflict has lasted nine years, eight months and 17 days, cost the lives of 2,547 coalition troops, and between 14,000 and 34,000 civilians, created millions of refugees, and opened up a black hole in Western economies that has sucked in more $500bn dollars. Afghanistan costs the US around $10bn (£6.3bn) a month; and Britain will pay £4.5bn this year.

USA: Soros 'Plan B' - New Taxes To Save EU
VIENNA (Reuters) – Billionaire investor George Soros thinks a country will eventually exit the euro zone and urged policymakers on Sunday to come up with a "plan B" that could rescue the European Union from looming economic collapse.
Soros, famous for making $1 billion by betting against the British pound in 1992, did not name any country he thought might exit the currency, but speculation is mounting about the fate of Greece as its politicians struggle to agree more austerity measures demanded by international lenders as the price for staving off bankruptcy.
Soros reiterated his view in a panel discussion in Vienna that the euro had a basic flaw from the start in that the currency was not backed by political union or a joint treasury.
"The euro had no provision for correction. There was no arrangement for any country leaving the euro, which in the current circumstances is probably inevitable," he said.
While he called survival of the European Union a "vital interest to all," he said the EU needed structural changes to halt a process of disintegration.
"There is no plan B at the moment. That is why the authorities are sticking to the status quo and insisting on preserving the existing arrangements instead of recognizing there are fundamental flaws that need to be corrected."
With a debt crisis in some peripheral members testing the EU's cohesiveness at a time of popular disquiet in wealthier countries over bailouts, he said leaders had to adopt measures now to remedy the situation.
"Let's face it: we are on the verge of an economic collapse which starts, let's say, in Greece but could easily spread. The financial system remains extremely vulnerable...
"We are on the edge of collapse and that is the time to recognize the need for change."
Some steps the EU could adopt included creating a larger central budget; directing some of the income from value-added tax or a levy on financial transactions to Brussels; having a European institution guarantee banks, and tripling the size of its bailout fund by topping it up with tax revenue, he said.

Luckily, she "learned her lesson" about talking back to America's authority figures. She was also awarded $40,000 in damages, which her County Constable, Richard McCain, complained was a reward for "bad behavior." Apparently putting 50,000 volts through the heart of someone's great-grandma is not bad behavior, as long as you wear a police uniform.
Winkfein was lucky. In what Digby calls the "Taser Atrocity Of The Day," a man who took groceries without having paid for them was tasered continuously for 37 seconds, after he became "aggressive and was communicating loudly." He died in the hospital. The police officer who killed him was suspended for five days.

The prime minister said that he was "devastated" by the news that Shale, aged 56, had been found dead in a portable toilet at the festival, after apparently suffering from a heart attack. Early rumours that he may have committed suicide were rejected by police.
It has emerged that two Downing Street officials tried to reach Shale around lunchtime on Saturday to warn him about the note, in which he described parts of his local party as crass and grasping and said that it offered people no reason to join, had been passed to the Mail on Sunday.
One official contacted him by text just after 12.30pm to advise him not to speak to reporters; another suggested he get in touch with Conservative headquarters.
Shale subsequently contacted the Witney constituency agent Barry Norton, a West Oxfordshire councillor, who said that Shale had been aware of the Mail article but was "quite confident that this was not really an issue".
According to a family friend who has been briefed by medical staff, doctors believe Shale may have suffered a massive heart attack as early as lunchtime on Saturday. There are reports that his family has a history of heart disease, and there is no evidence linking his having heard about the leak to the heart attack.

Population in the UK will hit 70m
Runaway migration will drive the UK population above 70million in 15 years – three years earlier than previously predicted. In 2009 official estimates predicted it would take 20 years to reach this landmark level, a figure the Prime Minister has said the nation must not reach. But the latest calculation suggests it could hit 70.4million in 2026, placing huge pressure on public services and housing.
The projection was compiled by the House of Commons library after questions by Tory MP James Clappison. It assumes net migration - the difference between numbers arriving and leaving - remained around its current record level of 240,000 a year.
Ministers pledged to cut it to the 'tens of thousands' by 2015. Two-thirds of the population rise is due to immigration, including an 'immigrant baby boom' caused by higher-than-average birth rates among migrant mothers.
Commentators said the analysis shows the 'absolute necessity' of cutting the number of migrants coming here. It shows the population, now thought to be around 62.8million, will rise to 65million in 2016, 67million in 2020 and 69million in 2024. The vast majority of the population increase would be in England. Today's figures show that even if net migration fell to an average of 180,000 a year, the population will hit 70million in 2029.
