Will governments confiscate gold?

As concerns mount that there is another financial crisis in the offing and the gold price rises, American investors worry increasingly about whether the US government will confiscate their gold. The precedent was set by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who in 1933 forced all of America’s gold owners to sell their bullion to the Federal government at the official price.

However, the situation today is very different from that of 78 years ago. At that time, gold was the primary currency, the dollar being tied to it at $20.67 per ounce. But today, the Fed and European central banks strongly deny that gold has any monetary role at all, and argue instead that it’s just a hangover from the past: “that barbarous relic” as Keynes called it. Its confiscation would be an embarrassing admission that gold, after all, is money.

Nevertheless, as paper currencies continue to lose credibility, the temptation for any government to seize its citizens’ gold to enhance official holdings must be growing. Americans today, however, are unlikely to meekly accept confiscation the way they did under Roosevelt. And nowadays, you may be American, but your gold is not necessarily held at an American bank: it is just as likely to be in London, Zurich or Hong Kong.

For very many years the Palestinian solidarity discourse was dominated by leftist ideology carried largely by Jewish Marxists. Though the support of Jewish leftists was rather important at an early stage, it lost its primacy and urgency as Palestinian resistance and the Palestinian solidarity discourse evolved into a vivid autonomous discourse based on widely accepted ethical grounds.

The Israeli war crimes against Palestinians are now well documented. No one needs the odd kosher ‘righteous Jew’ to approve that this is indeed the case. And yet, in spite of the clear fact that Palestinian solidarity discourse moved ahead, Jewish Marxists are still insisting upon dictating their tribally orientated pseudo-analytical vision of reality.

Jewish Marxism is very different from Marxism or socialism in general. While Marxism is a universal paradigm, its Jewish version is very different. It is there to mould Marxist dialectic into a Jewish subservient precept. Jewish Marxism is basically a crude utilisation of ‘Marxist-like’ terminology for the sole purpose of the Jewish tribal cause. It is a Judeo-centric pseudo intellectual setting which aims at political power.

USA: Sharks dying in San Francisco Bay [Radiation?]

Sharks are dying in San Francisco Bay, with volunteers having rescued and removed about a dozen dead and dying leopard sharks in small waterways in Redwood City over the past few days in what is rapidly becoming a common occurrence, an expert said.

Redwood City resident Catherine Greer and her 13-year-old son, Lorenzo, were the first to discover the dying sharks at a lagoon near Redwood Shores off Radio Road earlier this week.

Greer, an avid fisher, said what she saw upset her. "It looked like they were trying to beach themselves," she said. Greer contacted local officials who called in Sean Van Sommeran, executive director of the Pelagic Shark Research Foundation, a volunteer-led nonprofit organization.

Libya: Financial Heist of the Century: Confiscating Libya's Sovereign Wealth Funds

The objective of the war against Libya is not just its oil reserves (now estimated at 60 billion barrels), which are the greatest in Africa and whose extraction costs are among the lowest in the world, nor the natural gas reserves of which are estimated at about 1,500 billion cubic meters. In the crosshairs of "willing" of the operation “Unified Protector” there are sovereign wealth funds, capital that the Libyan state has invested abroad.

The Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) manages sovereign wealth funds estimated at about $70 billion U.S., rising to more than $150 billion if you include foreign investments of the Central Bank and other bodies. But it might be more. Even if they are lower than those of Saudi Arabia or Kuwait, Libyan sovereign wealth funds have been characterized by their rapid growth. When LIA was established in 2006, it had $40 billion at its disposal. In just five years, LIA has invested over one hundred companies in North Africa, Asia, Europe, the U.S. and South America: holding, banking, real estate, industries, oil companies and others.

In Italy, the main Libyan investments are those in UniCredit Bank (of which LIA and the Libyan Central Bank hold 7.5 percent), Finmeccanica (2 percent) and ENI (1 percent), these and other investments (including 7.5 percent of the Juventus Football Club) have a significance not as much economically (they amount to some $5.4 billion) as politically.

Libya, after Washington removed it from the blacklist of “rogue states,” has sought to carve out a space at the international level focusing on "diplomacy of sovereign wealth funds." Once the U.S. and the EU lifted the embargo in 2004 and the big oil companies returned to the country, Tripoli was able to maintain a trade surplus of about $30 billion per year which was used largely to make foreign investments. The management of sovereign funds has however created a new mechanism of power and corruption in the hands of ministers and senior officials, which probably in part escaped the control of the Gadhafi himself: This is confirmed by the fact that, in 2009, he proposed that the 30 billion in oil revenues go "directly to the Libyan people." This aggravated the fractures within the Libyan government.

U.S. and European ruling circles focused on these funds, so that before carrying out a military attack on Libya to get their hands on its energy wealth, they took over the Libyan sovereign wealth funds. Facilitating this operation is the representative of the Libyan Investment Authority, Mohamed Layas himself: as revealed in a cable published by WikiLeaks. On January 20 Layas informed the U.S. ambassador in Tripoli that LIA had deposited $32 billion in U.S. banks. Five weeks later, on February 28, the U.S. Treasury “froze” these accounts. According to official statements, this is "the largest sum ever blocked in the United States," which Washington held "in trust for the future of Libya." It will in fact serve as an injection of capital into the U.S. economy, which is more and more in debt. A few days later, the EU "froze" around 45 billion Euros of Libyan funds.

The assault on the Libyan sovereign wealth funds will have a particularly strong impact in Africa. There, the Libyan Arab African Investment Company had invested in over 25 countries, 22 of them in sub-Saharan Africa, and was planning to increase the investments over the next five years, especially in mining, manufacturing, tourism and telecommunications. The Libyan investments have been crucial in the implementation of the first telecommunications satellite Rascom (Regional African Satellite Communications Organization), which entered into orbit in August 2010, allowing African countries to begin to become independent from the U.S. and European satellite networks, with an annual savings of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Even more important were the Libyan investment in the implementation of three financial institutions launched by the African Union: the African Investment Bank, based in Tripoli, the African Monetary Fund, based in Yaoundé (Cameroon), the African Central Bank, with Based in Abuja (Nigeria). The development of these bodies would enable African countries to escape the control of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, tools of neo-colonial domination, and would mark the end of the CFA franc, the currency that 14 former French colonies are forced to use. Freezing Libyan funds deals a strong blow to the entire project. The weapons used by "the willing" are not only those in the military action called “Unified Protector.”

Apparently we all have to go vegetarian to ‘save the planet’ whilst they stuff their swelling gullets with speciality ham, goose liver consommé and racks of lamb, all of which I’m sure are organically supplied at huge expense, not to them, but to us, the mugs that pay for all of it.

And let’s not forget the entertainment supplied by an ‘ensemble’ we’re informed, again paid by the gullible taxpayer who can’t see the bigger picture of decadent debauchery these hypocritical leeches partake in on a daily basis whilst we suffer the consequences of their illegitimate actions. I wonder if that includes their after dinner entertainment too? You know the kind I mean so no need to elaborate on that.

After reading through the contents of the menu, which is only one of many which these political puppets have laid in front of them throughout their tenure, you should be outraged because whilst you’re barely scratching a living and having to bargain hunt around your local Tesco to feed your family, you’re paying for all of their disgustingly unsustainable lifestyles.

This is exactly as things were in the old style Soviet Union. What we see happening on a daily basis in the Super-state that is the EuSSR is simply an upgraded and more debauched version of that corrupt system.

Enjoy your pie and mash folks because if these criminals have their way you might only be allowed the mash in future. But I suppose every cloud has a silver lining. You won’t be allowed to have a family either so you’ll have less mouths to feed I guess!

The man called Yeshua saw all the people trying to get close. He knew he must soon speak out to settle them down, or some may get hurt. In those times, the slightest injury could mean a painful death by runaway infection.

This very hypocrisy is staring you right in the face today. Read on should you have any guts left and truly understand what is right and what is wrong. 

This statement of Jesus to his disciples was written by Luke, around 60 AD (approximately 27 years after the crucifixion). Luke was a close companion to Saint Paul and almost certainly spoke to people who had actual face-to-face contact with Jesus. Luke was a “Pagan” Gentile who spoke Aramaic and could write in Greek and Latin; his long, untitled letters to a Roman official named Theophilus make up two of the most beautiful books in the Bible: The Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. 

Luke had access to a document written during the time of Jesus, parts of which appear in the other Gospels; often called the “Q-source,” an abbreviation of the German word “quelle,” meaning source. It would be much like someone today having a book written by real witnesses to a big event back in the 1980′s, and then paraphrasing from it in a letter to a friend today. In those days, there was no Amazon.com where people could get books quickly, nor were books as we know them even in existence. 

Some people make the ridiculous claim that Jesus never even existed. But we have concrete archaeological evidence about some of those spoken about in the Gospels. In 1961, a plaque was discovered in Caesaria, on the coast of the Mediterranean, with the name of Pontius Pilate (right). In 1990, they found the funeral ossuaries for the family of Caiaphas, the hateful Pharisee who turned Jesus over to Pilate and the Romans for a brutal execution.

This man looked into Jesus’ eyes on the day they nailed him to the cross. 

It would be extremely difficult to believe Jesus’ followers would invent Him, while at the same time being hunted down and violently persecuted by the Jewish power matrix, desperate to silence this new break-away faith. Saint Paul was originally a Jew named Saul, hired by the Sanhedrin to uncover Christians for mortal punishment, until he had an epiphany (one with enormous implications) when the spirit of Jesus spoke to him and blinded him temporarily. 

People might know a little something about the Jews having Jesus crucified, but few also realize the Jews mercilessly persecuted the early Christians. Jesus’ half brother, James the Just, was thrown off a building and stoned to death by a Jewish mob in 62 CE.

USA: Orwellian "Global Anti-Semitism Review Act" makes it a crime in America to tell the truth about Zionism

...In 2004, the US Congress passed the Global Anti-Semitism Review Act. The Act defines a person as being anti-Semitic for holding any of a number of beliefs. My comments follow each of the 14 items supposedly revealing anti-Semitism.

1. Any assertion, “that the Jewish community controls government, the media, international business and the financial world.”

According to this, it doesn’t matter whether the assertion is true or not. Truth is not an issue. Simply making such a statement violates the Act. In itself, that fact provides strong evidence of control of the US government.

2. The expression of “Strong anti-Israel sentiment.”

Any criticism of Israel can thus be considered anti-Semitic. Israel can mangle Gaza and get away with it.

3. Expressing “Virulent criticism” of Israel’s leaders, past or present.

Menachem Begin may have led the Irgun in the slaughter and dispossession of thousands of Palestinians, but it’s anti-Semitic to say so.

4. Any criticism of the Jewish religion or its religious leaders with its emphasis on the Talmud and Kabbala.

It’s perfectly acceptable, as free speech, to vilify Islam, but any criticism of Judaism violates the Act.

5. Any criticism of the United States Government and Congress for being under the undue influence by the Jewish-Zionist community, which would include Jewish organizations such as AIPAC.

Truth matters not to the ridiculous legislators who passed this ludicrous act.

6. Any criticism of the Jewish-Zionist community for promoting globalism or what some call the “New World Order.”

When you can’t criticise a propaganda machine for its promotions, both free speech and democracy are dead.

7. Placing any blame on Jewish leaders and their followers for inciting the Roman crucifixion of Christ.

In order to accommodate the anti-Semitism label, simply rewrite history.

8. Citing any facts that could in any way diminish the “six million” figure of Jewish holocaust victims.

I violate the act simply by citing the fact that five million non-Jews died at the hands of the Nazis. This goes beyond stifling free speech.

9. Claiming that Israel is a racist state.

That’s not a claim. It’s a fact. Israel is full of racist laws. It insists on preserving its racist character and its right to impose apartheid in the West Bank and Gaza.

10. Making any claim that there is a “Zionist Conspiracy.”

A rational provision for such a claim would insist on evidence as proof of its validity. To disallow making such a claim is existentially (Israelis love that word) dictatorial.

11. Offering proof that Jews and their leaders created Communism and the Bolshevik revolution in Russia.

It just became illegal to offer proof. Minds are made up. Don’t confuse them with the facts.

12. Making derogatory statements about Jewish persons.

Why limit it to Jewish persons?

13. Asserting that spiritually disobedient Jews do not have the Biblical right to re-occupy Palestine.

Why limit it to the spiritually disobedient?

14. Making any allegations of Mossad involvement in the 9/11 attack.

I just did in a column published a week ago.

USA: Airport passenger screener charged in distributing child pornography

A passenger screener at Philadelphia International Airport is facing charges that he distributed more than 100 images of child pornography via Facebook, records show.

Federal agents also allege that Transportation Safety Administration Officer Thomas Gordon Jr. of Philadelphia, who routinely searched airline passengers, uploaded explicit pictures of young girls to an Internet site on which he also posted a photograph of himself in his TSA uniform. Homeland Security agents arrested the TSA officer March 24, and he is being held without bail.

Although the case was unsealed Thursday, neither the indictment nor the news release mentioned Gordon's job searching airline passengers for TSA.

The Internet: New Study Shows Global Internet Freedom Is on the Decline as More Countries Jail Bloggers

Globally, the outlook isn't that great. Twenty-three of the 37 countries assessed had at least one blogger arrested for content they posted online. In Vietnam, four activists were sentenced to 33 years in prison for using the internet to expose human rights violations.

Fifty bloggers were detained in Iran following the country's 2009 elections. In China, a woman was sentenced to a labor camp for a satirical Tweet. In fact, social networking sites were often the ones most targeted; 12 of the 37 countries regularly banned sites like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

USA: Police Officer Breaks Reporters Camera For Filming On Public sidewalk

Milwaukee Police Officer Joseph Anderer did not want any recording of his colleagues ticketing a victim who was broadsided April 52011 by a speeding police car that exited an alley without stopping.

So he twisted the camera from reporter Geoff Davidian's hand, breaking the lens. Anderer cited Davidian for interfering with issuance of a citation, although no citation was issued (except to Davidian) by any of the police in the six squad cars and a motorcycle that responded for 90 minutes.

The citizen whose car sustained damage from the speeding police car was issued a warning. During the incident, Anderer said, "You reporters never tell the truth." So we'll let the camera do the talking in this video.



Chris Hedges: FBI is the Jackboots Enforcer

After speaking at Macalester College on Wednesday night, award-winning journalist Chris Hedges was asked about the FBI's role in the recent targeting of peace activists in the Twin Cities and elsewhere in the Midwest. Nine had their homes searched and were issued subpoenas to appear before a Grand Jury in Chicago. Hedges offered a pessimistic view that the FBI is merely the "jackboot" extension of the ongoing attack on civil liberties. He was also asked about the role of citizen journalists. He'd previously stated, "All journalists should belong to a union and be well-paid." He sees serious issues with the current state of journalism.

Palestine: Israeli policemen beat Palestinian Christians on their way to church

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, Israeli policemen beat up a group of Palestinian Christians while on their way to visit the Church of holy Sepulcher in occupied Jerusalem on the occasion of “Holy Saturday”.

Palestinian sources said that the police manning a barricade prevented the young men from proceeding to the holy site while allowing dozens of foreign tourists to cross in the company of Israeli tourist guides, which led to clashes. A Christian activist accused Israel of religious harassment against all non-Jews.

For its part, the Sawasiya center for human rights charged that Israel was planning to block entry of non-Jews to occupied Jerusalem. It said that the Israeli schemes to build more housing units in the holy city pointed to such a plot, adding that they target wiping out Jerusalem’s Arab and Islamic landmarks and expelling non-Jews out of it.

The center described the Israeli schemes as an infringement on the freedom of worship and a blatant violation of international laws that prohibit introducing any changes to an occupied territory or forcing its inhabitants out of their land.

9/11: First Responder - "We Were Nuked on 9-11"

In November, the heat from the underground fires were melting fireman's boots. My feet were hot as I walked across the rubble.

I laugh when all  these firemen and cops are portrayed as heroes for responding to 9/11.

Consider me the anti-hero. I arrived at the WTC on the second week and I worked at the WTC and landfill until November.  I made the best of it and did what I had to do.

As an Italian American cop from Brooklyn I did my job-nothing more. I was out for me. Throughout my career I made arrests and I was never in trouble yet I knew in the back of my mind that the job would screw me. It did.

I am now sick like thousands of other first responders. The difference is that I'm not bellyaching about what an injustice was dealt to me. Perhaps it is karma.

It is funny how the powers-that-be hide the truth right under your nose, in plain sight. In the early 40s the "Manhattan Project" was started. Years later we all knew about the devastation of the first A-bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima. It turns out  that no one could fathom that the government would build an Atom bomb right in downtown Manhattan.

Surely the Manhattan Project had to be in some far off, secretive place like Hanford,Washington, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, or Los Alamos, New Mexico . Well, the uranium and other elements were stored near Columbia University, West 20th Street and  the West Side Highway, and in the Woolworth Building  located at 233 Broadway.

We referred to the World Trade Center as being "Ground Zero."

Hmm....Remember I said "hiding in plain sight." "Ground zero" began with the Manhattan Project and the bombing of Japan. The term 'ground zero' was be used to designate the point on the ground directly beneath the point of detonation, or 'air zero.'

Ground Zero was the code name given to the spot chosen for the atomic bomb test at Trinity Site.

MY EXPERIENCE AT GROUND ZERO
I found it strange that the Trade Center which was 110 floors was reduced to approximately six stories of tangled  steel girders. Where did all the materials go? Where were all the bodies? Where were all the porcelain bathroom fixtures? Dustified? Why was sand brought in by the truckload  and old dirt taken away?

In November, the heat from the underground fires were melting firemen's boots. My feet were hot as I walked across the rubble. Steam rose up from below as excavators removed debris. How do you have fires that continually burned at 2000 degrees, several stories below the debris in the absence of oxygen?

Christie Whitman of the EPA under orders from the White House stated the air was safe to breathe. Thousands of first responders are now sick as well as are downtown residents. Where is the EPA's air sampling report for radiation? Why was it never made public?

Why were the steel girders quickly brought to the Staten Island Landfill and sold without an investigation?. Should not a forensic investigation have been conducted of the steel and debris?

I was also a first responder to the WTC bombing in 1993. Former NYPD Chief of Department, Louis Anemone listed WTC Building 7 as a target for a second terrorist attack. Against both Anemone's  and  former Police Commissioner, Howard Safir's recommendations,  Mayor Guiliani placed the NYPD Emergency Center in Building 7.

He cited "walking distance" as a factor for placing the emergency command within walking distance of City Hall.  Why would any one in their right mind make their Emergency Center at the same location that was already hit?

First responders are contracting cancers at an unprecedented rate compared to the public at large. Of interest many are rare blood cancers such as multiple myelomas, lymphomas, leukemia, esophageal, lung, gastric and kidney cancers.

First responders report developing  shortness of breathe, the infamous "WTC Cough" now termed  Reactive Airway Disease (RADS), Chronic Sinusitis,  GERD, esophagitis, and severe sleep problems such as Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea, skin disorders, memory problems, depression, cognitive disorders, endocrine disorders, and general muscle pain deemed fibromyalgia. Interesting enough Gulf War veterans report experiencing severe headaches,joint pain, diarrhea,dizziness, memory problems, fatigue and skin rashes in addition to breathing and similar gastric problems that mimic 9/11 illness.

The symptoms are similar  to that of the atomic bomb survivors. Many, including retired  US Army Major Doug Rokkee, PhD.,  a DU expert, now  believe that depleted uranium (DU) from munitions is the cause of Gulf War Illness.  Government investigator's  hint of the possibility  that the burning fires filled with  toxic oil laden smoke and  the multitude of immunizations may have been  the cause of  Gulf War Syndrome. Likewise 9/11 cancers were supposedly caused from  benzene from the jet fuel from the burning planes, and the respiratory and gastric problems resulted from a caustic toxic brew of pulverized silica,  cement dust, and airborne asbestos among other chemicals.

CONCLUSION

The events of 9/11  were orchestrated by members of our government. There are many examples of False Flag attacks.  There were many motives and both the government and private entities profited as detailed  previously.

It is becoming apparent that the government put out the official story which for a multitude of reasons does not stand up to scrutiny.  For those non-believers the 9/11 Truth Movement was established which ushered in the theory of "controlled implosion."  Thermite was found. Then the DEW theory of "no planes" and directed energy weapons were espoused by Dr. Judy Woods.

I saw plane remains so I don't buy the "no plane theory." I wonder why out of four planes no black boxes were recovered from the planes. It does not make sense.

 Most people gave up by this time, but the more I looked at "dustification" I added up the evidence: trucks of sand being brought in, high heat melting firemen's boots, the disintegration of steel, porcelain fixtures and bodies, and the relation of 9/11 illness to Gulf War Syndrome and atomic attack symptoms.There is only one feasible answer.

The World Trade Center was brought down by  a controlled demolition that involved thermite and small, possibly suitcase nuclear weapons. The WTC   really is "Ground Zero," the site of an atomic blast.

The high heat fires were evidence of a nuclear "China Syndrome."Sand and copious amounts of water were used for radiation containment and the contaminated sand and structural steel girders were quickly carted off and disposed off.

The powers-that-be want to hide this fact because the American people will not stand for the fact that an American city was nuked. Many more first responders and Manhattan residents will be added to the 9-11 death toll in the years ahead.

Campaigns against new Tesco stores [Owned by the multi-millionare Cohen dynasty] have been taking place across the country for years now. They are usually dogged, low-key affairs and rarely attract national attention. Until now, none has erupted in violence.

There are many reasons why local people protest at the opening of a Tesco store. Invariably, some of the opposition is self-interested, though legitimate: from small shopkeepers who inevitably lose sales when a superstore opens down the road with wider aisles, more choice – and cheaper prices. Some campaigners fear the loss of a local town or neighbourhood's character with the arrival of a homogenous retail giant.

Others complain that Tesco is less ethical than other businesses, that its environmental and labour standards are lower and that it bullies suppliers. Some of these campaigns endure for years, like the one in the Norfolk seaside resort of Sheringham. Tesco, though, usually wins in the end. It did not become the UK's biggest retailer, with annual sales of £67bn, by being soft: it is dogged, robust and aggressive.

That a protest against Tesco should turn violent may reflect a hardening of direct action against big corporations who are deemed to have behaved badly towards the general public. In recent months protesters have occupied branches of Vodafone, TopShop and Barclays in protest at what they claim is tax dodging by those companies at a time of public sector cuts.

EU: France considers temporary border control option [To stem mass invasion of Migrants (Most of them heading for the UK)]

France wants to make it easier to set up temporary border controls with its EU partners to stem an increase in migrants, a source close to the presidency said, a rise caused in part by uprisings in Tunisia and Libya.

"It seems to us that we need to think about a mechanism that would allow us, when there is a systematic disruption at one of the EU's external borders, to intervene with a temporary suspension for as long as the disruption lasts," the source close to President Nicolas Sarkozy's office told Reuters yesterday.

Italy says 26,000 migrants fleeing violence in Libya and unrest in Tunisia and Egypt have arrived on its shores so far this year. Once inside the border-free Schengen area, migrants can move freely around the 25-nation bloc of European states.

France recently shut its borders to trains carrying African migrants from Italy, triggering a dispute between the two governments, with Italy accusing its neighbour of overstepping the EU's Schengen treaty on border-free travel. The European Commission has said the move was legal.

The source said France now wanted to boost the treaty's existing provision for suspending border-free travel for exceptional security reasons. The Schengen area comprises 25 countries, 22 of them EU members. It has border controls on entering and leaving the area, but none on travel within it.

The treaty already allows member countries to temporarily reinstate border controls if deemed necessary for security reasons, such as big sporting events like the Olympic Games or to address temporary threats.

The modern war-lovers have known no street of screams and despair. Their abuse of our memory of the fallen, and why they fell, may be common among all servitors of rapacious power, but Australia is a special case. No country is more secure in its strategic remoteness and the wealth of its resources, yet no western elite is more eager to talk war and seek imperial “protection”.

Australia’s military budget is A$32 bn a year, one of the highest in the world. Less than two months’ worth of this war-bingeing would pay for the reconstruction of the state of Queensland after the catastrophic floods, but not a cent is forthcoming. In July, the same fragile flood plains will be invaded by a joint US-Australian military force, firing laser-guided missiles, dropping bombs and blasting the environment and marine life. This is rarely reported. Rupert Murdoch controls 70 per cent of the capital city press and his world-view is widely shared in the Australian media.

In a 2009 US cable released by WikiLeaks, the then Labor prime minister, Kevin Rudd, who is now foreign affairs minister, implores the Americans to “deploy force” against China if Beijing does not do as it is told. Another Labor leader, Kim Beazley, secretly offered Australian troops for an attack on China over Taiwan. In the 1960s, prime minister Robert Menzies lied that he had received a request from the American-created regime in Saigon requesting Australian troops. Oblivious, Australians waved farewell to a largely conscripted army, of whom almost 3000 were killed or wounded. The first Australian troops were run by the CIA in “black teams” - assassination squads. When the government in Canberra made a rare complaint to Washington that the British knew more than they about America’s war aims in Vietnam, the US national security adviser, McGeorge Bundy, replied, “We have to inform the British to keep them on side. You in Australia are with us come what may.” As an Australian soldier once said to me: “We are to the Yanks what the Gurkas are to the British. We’re mercenaries in all but name.”

USA: "The President Who Became an Actor": And This Year’s Oscar Goes To… Barack Obama

If Ronald Reagan was known as the actor who became a president, then perhaps Barack Obama should become known as the president who became an actor.

For every facial movement evinced, every gesture of the hand, every word enunciated by the 44th president turns out to be a complete charade.

This is the guy who ran for the presidency presenting himself before the US nation, hand on heart, as the candidate who would end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; end the killing of civilians in those countries; and the brutalizing of young American men. Two years on, Obama has donned the costume of US commander-in-chief with ever-frightening zeal. Far from ending the wars, Obama has not only ramped up America’s foreign wars of aggression, he has expanded them into new territories, including Pakistan, Libya and East Africa, adding countless more innocent lives to Washington’s global death toll.

This is the guy who promised to close the American gulag of Guantanamo Bay where hundreds of men have been rendered by kidnapping from various parts of the world, tortured and held without trial, not one of them convicted. Two years on, promise broken. US rendition and torture is still standard practice, a fact to which American soldier Bradley Manning can testify simply because he showed the moral courage to tell the truth about such US crimes against humanity.

This is the guy who promised with unctuous sincerity to make a new beginning in US foreign policy, to respect universal human rights. “Universal human rights begin in the lives of each and every individual,” he intoned with his by-now clichéd solemn voice and face. Two years on, US foreign policy has even less regard for human rights both abroad and at home. In Gaza, the world’s largest outdoor concentration camp besieged by the US-fuelled Israeli war machine, Obama’s rhetoric on respecting the rights of human beings stands as a grotesque mockery. Elsewhere in the Muslim world, this guy is seen as the genial peacemaker who let his mask slip to reveal an ugly warmongering face like all his other predecessors.

This is the guy who pretends to offer the best deal to the US public over the budget deficit by gallantly fending off Republican axemen. “I won’t slash you by $6 trillion, I’ll only slash you by $4 trilllion,” to paraphrase his fake logic. As if this is a benign alternative that the American people just can’t refuse. So the guy who once upon a time supposedly broke his heart over Chicago’s inner-city poor will now unleash massive austerity on many more of America’s poor and ground-down working class, by slashing $4 trillion worth of Medicaid and Medicare, public education, social welfare and jobs. Nowhere does our supposed chivalrous and cerebral hero Obama appear to be able or willing to think outside the box in which the corporate aristocracy has entombed their political vampires on Capitol Hill. How about ending the trillion-dollar wars he was supposed to end? Or re-appropriating the trillions of dollars that he lavished on the banksters? Or reversing tax breaks for the already obscenely wealthy. These alternatives would make a lot more economic sense, justice and peace than Obama’s attack on the very people who voted him in to make a change.

Above all, this is the guy who has shown that he can lie with a pious face, smile sweetly when he refers to murdering innocent people with aerial drones, and can almost bring a tear to the eye when he talks about “not being able to ignore humanitarian values in Libya” [while then proceeding to oversee the bombing of civilians in that country and in the same breath not giving a pause to murder of civilians by a US ally in Bahrain].

So at the next Oscar ceremony, a special category should be opened for Barack Obama, the acting president of the USA. He can then hang that along with his Nobel peace prize – which, come to think of it, could also be nominated for “funniest screenplay ever”.

UK: 'We'll seize possessions from your homes': New threat by tax 'thugs' in second wave of letters to debtors

The taxman has sent a second wave of menacing letters to debtors, warning he will seize possessions from their homes.

HM Revenue & Customs officials were branded ‘thugs’ last week after The Mail on Sunday revealed they had written to tax debtors warning their cars, TVs and computers could be grabbed and sold at auction for a fraction of their value. MPs condemned the letters, which warned that a £2,000 flatscreen TV could be sold for £200 and an £800 laptop for £100.

Yet now officials have sent further threats, warning people they will have no control over what is taken from their homes. One letter went to 85-year-old Richard Tanner, a former design engineer who became an MBE for aiding aircraft refuelling during the Falklands War. He is a regular taxpayer and does not dispute owing money – merely the amount.

The new letters, sent from HMRC in Croydon, state: ‘We will now need to take action to collect your tax. We are arranging a visit to your house. We will view your possessions and list those that we will sell at auction. 'Once listed, your belongings will become the property of HM Revenue & Customs. We strongly advise you to avoid this as it will cost you much more to pay this way and can be embarrassing.’

Most Indians think of ourselves as aid donors, not recipients. So when the news broke that the issue of foreign aid spending was causing a row in Britain, we were mostly amused, because in Indian terms, the amount you give is too small to make a real difference. We don’t want to sound ungracious. But India could do without it. That pretty much sums up our attitude: indifference.’

While Britain struggles to emerge from recession and makes public spending cuts, India is booming. In a broad swathe of the country from Chennai in the south to Mumbai, Bangalore, Gujarat, Delhi and the Punjab in the north, sheer entrepreneurial energy seems to surge through the streets. There are gleaming hotels the equal of any in London, hi-tech science and business parks and a plethora of shopping malls.

Over the past four years, India’s revenue from income tax has grown by a staggering 25 per cent each year. Having been growing at an annual rate of nine per cent, GDP is set to quadruple by 2030.

India is the world’s largest importer of weaponry. While Britain debates the future of our planned new aircraft carriers, India’s Cochin shipyard is steaming ahead with its building of two Vikrant-class vessels capable of carrying 40 aircraft each, at a cost in excess of £1 billion. The Indian Space Research Organisation is soon to send its first probe to Mars, and by 2015 the country hopes to become only the fourth to launch its own manned spacecraft. India is also a large aid donor itself, with programmes in 40 countries worth, last year, about £320 million.

Despite all this, Andrew Mitchell, the UK’s International Development Secretary, pledged in February to give India £280 million every year until 2015. DFID is the only Government department whose budget is not merely ring-fenced but increasing.

Muslims from an organisation called the ‘Ummah of Muhammad’ distributed leaflets intended to incite the 1,000 Muslims attending the Swansea mosque yesterday. Police boxed in the marchers outside the Rowlands Exchange & Mart store; however, it is understood that no Muslims were arrested by Swansea police for incitement. 

This is, of course, in sharp contrast with the politically motivated arrests of two British National Party candidates by Swansea police in a night raid by ten plain-clothes police officers in unmarked cars who ransacked their home, seizing computers, mobile phones, satnav equipment, election material and personal belongings.

As reported earlier on this site, Sion Owens, a British National Party candidate in the current Welsh Assembly election, was one of thousands of people internationally who is alleged to have burned a book, in his garden, last 11th September, on the anniversary of the 9/11 Islamic terrorist atrocities which caused the deaths of nearly 3,000 innocent victims. Joanne Shannon, the British National Party candidate for Swansea East in the Welsh Assembly election, was also arrested once police realised she too was a British National Party candidate.
