USA: Is Libya The New Iraq? U.S. Prepares Libyan Invasion

Many signs are pointing to the potential U.S. military invasion of Libya, much like how the U.S. invaded Iraq for oil, to topple Saddam and replace him with a brand new puppet dictator.

Obama announced that he will send CFR member and Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William J. Burns to Europe and the Middle East. According to Obama, Mr. Burns will “intensify our consultation with allies and partners.” In other words Burns will serve as the point man ahead of the coming intervention in Libya, where there is around 46 billion barrels of estimated oil reserves.

According to the White House spokesman Jay Carney, “no options” have been taken off the table when it comes to the situation in Libya. “Our job is to give options from the military side, and that is what we are thinking about now,” “We will provide the president with options should he need them.” By saying that “all options” are being considered, that is basically a way for the Obama administration to threaten Gadhafi without actually coming right out and threatening him.

Canada: Deceptive climate poll should be ignored

A news release from the Public Policy Forum and Sustainable Prosperity last Wednesday began, “A poll released today shows that Canadians believe that climate change is happening and would be willing to pay for government policies that reverse or slow the damage.” They continued, “Belief in climate change among Canadians substantially outpaces belief in this phenomenon among residents of the United States.”

But that wasn’t really what the survey showed — respondents were actually asked about somewhat different topics.

This was not explained by most of those reporting on the poll. For example, the CBC wrote, “Far more Canadians than Americans believe climate change is real, according to a report produced by U.S. and Canadian think tanks … In Canada, 80 per cent believe in the science behind climate change … .”

Palestinian legal Prime Minister - Ismail Haniyeh – said in September 2010 that “Palestinians worldwide do not support absurd talks with Israel,” and that “the scheduled negotiations would not restore Palestinians' rights or give them control over religious sites.” Khaled Mashal, said that the upcoming talks were illegitimate and the result of coercion by Washington. Without an advancing peace process, Israelis and Palestinians directly suffering under the violent hands of the Israeli Administration may upraise as Tunisians, Egyptians and Lybians did, asking for their human rights and freedoms. The State of Israel – an illegitimate, terror inflicting organization – is not different from them.

In the last week of February 2011, Netanyahu said over the phone to the German chancellor that he was about to launch a diplomatic initiative, explaining he is making a speech in two weeks in which he will outline a new peace plan. The prime minister claims he intends to launch a new peace plan that would be a continuation of his Bar-Ilan University speech of June 2009, in which he agreed to establish a Palestinian state. Israeli media confirmed that, saying that Netanyahu is frantically looking for a way to jumpstart the peace process, in view of Israel's growing international isolation. "Netanyahu has recently begun talking about a second Bar-Ilan speech," said a senior Foreign Ministry official close to Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman (in the lingo of the Hebrew media this probably refers to Lieberman himself). The speech would outline an alternative to the interim agreement with the Palestinians, similar to Lieberman's plan. The initiative consists of establishing a Palestinian state within temporary borders on about 50% of the West Bank.

This is an awesome statement showing an attempt to contaminate another society with the illnesses of the Jewish State. So many years after Israel tricked the UN to give it independence (Israel fails even now to meet the basic conditions imposed by the UN on its sovereignty), it is attempting to create the same contraption with a Palestinian state. A state with no clear boundaries, no well-defined population, and probably even without a Constitution; in other words a Palestinian replica of the State of Israel, for the shame of humanity. Another make-believe fake solution to real problems; another attempt of the Deep Pocket Families to bury the peoples heads in the sands of the Middle Eastern Deserts while enriching themselves with the Business of War.

Here we go, back down Gin Lane. William Hogarth’s depiction of a country drowning in drunkenness used to feature in the history books of my childhood as a quaint reminder of a debauched past.

We didn’t know how lucky we were. Now it does not seem so distant. In how many homes is drink now a reason for embarrassment, fear, disease, loss and other perils? How many children are growing up with a drunken parent? In how many hospitals is drink the principal cause of injuries on two or three nights of the week?

In how many towns and cities do we see men and women hopelessly inebriated, sprawled, spewing, incontinent, enraged, violent or dangerous to themselves and others?


Hogarth would not be surprised to see it. My grandfather, raised in the rougher parts of Portsmouth, remembered it very well from the years before the First World War. But in my parents’ time, and in the first part of my life, it was not like that.


Pubs were closed for much of the day, and for longer on Sundays. Most shops did not sell alcohol at all. By comparison with now, drink was very expensive – especially spirits. I don’t remember any particular demand to change this. In my early years in the newspaper trade, where a certain thirstiness has always been common, I learned that if anyone really wanted to get a drink at any time of day, he could do so with a bit of ingenuity or forethought.


There were discreet ‘clubs’, often enjoy¬ably raffish and sordid. There were pubs that let you in after hours. There were special licences for market traders and – all else failing – there were the buffet cars of railway trains.


But I also saw a valued and talented colleague carried out of the newsroom by four strong men, weeping, struggling, shouting and very visibly wetting his trousers. I saw others destroyed in various ways – their mem¬ories shattered, ordered by doctors to stop drinking or die. One – a man always on the edge of severe violence – did die, so lonely and unmissed that his decomposing body was found in his bleak, empty home some weeks after he had departed this life.


Around this time I noticed that the (Tory) Government seemed to have decided that the drink laws needed relaxing. Why? Various blatantly bogus ‘experiments’ were carried out in Scotland, based on the fatuous idea that the licensing laws actually caused drunkenness. We were told that these trials had ‘shown’ that weaker laws led to less violence and disorder on the streets.


Next it was the turn of the rest of the country. Laws that had worked well for 70 years were rapidly repealed. Labour Ministers began to talk rubbish about introducing a continental ‘cafe culture’ under which we would be supposedly treated as grown-ups. But we are not continentals, and it was not grown-ups who would be the main victims of this change. During the 2001 Election campaign, Labour – to its eternal shame – texted young voters with the message: ‘Don’t give a XXXX for last orders? Vote Labour on Thursday.’


So in the space of about ten years, a subtle and elaborate system for keeping us out of Gin Lane was dismantled. But why? The group of distinguished doctors who urged higher prices for alcohol last week suggested that politicians were too close to the drinks industry. This is no doubt true. The Tory Party was always the party of booze. The Prime Minister was for a while on the board of a company that aggressively sought 3am licences for its chain of funky bars.


But what about Labour, the party of Methodism and Temperance and the Band of Hope? Well, that was the bit of Labour they got rid of. Lobbyists from the drink industry were at one stage accused of writing New Labour’s licensing legislation themselves. And if they didn’t, they might as well have done. I don’t think that money alone explains this.


The people who run this country seem to have a growing desire to see as many of us as possible stupefied, either with alcohol or with cannabis or with trash TV. Perhaps they reckon it is the only way we can be persuaded to put up with the mess they have made.


It’s certainly working. If the leaders of Tunisia, Egypt and Libya had flooded their streets with strong lager and alcopops, instead of relying on thugs and tear gas, they’d probably all still be safe in power.

Days before leaving, they arrive at safe houses such as this one and survive without water or sanitary facilities. Once the coast is clear, a fishing boat docks, loads its human cargo and sets off, under cover of darkness.

Half of Britain 'would vote for far-Right parties if they gave up violence'

Almost half the country would back a far-Right party if they gave up violence, an astonishing new poll revealed today.

A total of 48 per cent said that they would support a group that vowed to crack down on immigration and Islamic extremists. They would also restrict the building of mosques and order the flag of St George or the Union Jack be flown on all public buildings.

Anti-racism campaigners said the findings were a clear sign that Britain's mainstream parties were losing touch with many voters on the issue of race. There has been a recent wave of support for extremists such as the English Defence League and the British National Party.

And the poll, which will spark fresh fears of racial tension, suggests that the level of backing for a far-Right party could equal or even outstrip that in countries such as France, the Netherlands and Austria.

I live in Carlton in Sydney’s south, nestled between Kogarah and Hurstville. In the last month there has been great controversy out this way as reported in the local paper( The St.George and Sutherland Leader) with both articles and residents letters complaining at how Australia Day is being overshadowed and negated by council’s celebrations of Chinese New Year. In Kogarah there is another, not entirely unrelated controversy going on. Kogarah council has not one but three sister cities in China – Shunde, Ma’anshan and Nanxiong.

Chinese government officials in Shunde are giving Kogarah council a statue of the kung fu actor Bruce Lee and they are insisting it be placed in a prominent public location; Kogarah council has decided, WITH NO PUBLIC CONSULTATION, to erect the statue in Kogarah town square. Many, many residents are against this and believe that an Australian identity, especially one with local significance should be erected instead; some of the suggestions being a statue of St George, as Kogarah is home to the St George Dragons, Don Bradman, Ken Rosewall, and even Clive James who is an old Kogarah boy.

A colleague and I have just returned from reporting the crime of treason to the local police station in Suffolk Constabulary, UK.

This involves the fact that Britain , in our case, although every country in Europe, was treasonously shoehorned into the European Union through stealth and lies.

We first reported it to the civilian officer at the front desk who handed the complaint onto Constable Police Number 707. We insisted on a private room which we were duly given and put forward our case.

After a short conversation where we stated the case for treason, he confessed to not having treason on his system as a crime. The conversation progressed from there and the Constable, after looking at reports on the subject from other constabularies told us that Cambridge had rejected the charges. He then came across a report from Norwich constabulary, which was a lengthy report by his own admission, which he said he’d have to read later.

The War-on-Poverty was actually a war against the poor that served to mask the massive amount of government aid that went directly to the corporations as Corporate-Welfare; while it criminalized the poor for being poor and targeted 'Welfare-Queens' that obscured the basis for the inequality in America which was the real-reason for widespread poverty in this country.

The Great Society was another erosion of ethics and good-judgment in yet another effort to segregate the rich even further from the poor by catering to strict-capitalism for those that provided services to the poor, while catering to communistic-principles for the owners of the nation; when it came to who would cover their losses. The poor in the Great Society were treated as half-persons in need of guidance, while those corporations and lobbyists that jumped on the chance to administer to the unfortunates got filthy-rich.

USA: Despite Protests, Wisconsin Assembly OKs Bill

'The Wisconsin state Assembly has passed a controversial bill that will strip public workers of their union rights, despite mass rallies staged to protest the plan.

The bill, the first significant plan drawn up by the state's new Republican governor, was approved on Friday by a vote of 51 to 17. Twenty-eight lawmakers, including 25 Democrats, two Republicans and one independent, did not vote on the bill, UPI reported.'

'Israeli troops have attacked a peaceful Palestinian protest rally in an East al-Quds (Jerusalem) neighborhood, killing a three-month-old infant.

The three-month-old female infant died after inhaling tear gas fired by Israeli police in the Silwan neighborhood. Israeli police also fired rubber bullets during clashes with Palestinian protesters. Palestinians hold weekly protest rallies in Silwan against Tel Aviv's harsh policies towards Palestinians following the Friday Prayers.'

Israel: Merkel rebukes Israeli PM Netanyahu for failing to advance peace

Israeli paper reports that PM was told in fractious phone call: 'You haven't made a single step'

The German chancellor, Angela Merkel, has sternly rebuked the Israeli prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, in an unusually fractious telephone call, according to media reports.

Netanyahu had done nothing to advance the peace process, Merkel said in a conversation this week, reported in the Israeli daily Haaretz.

The Israeli prime minister telephoned Merkel on Monday to say he was disappointed that Germany had voted for a UN security council resolution condemning settlements that was vetoed by the US.

According to a German official quoted by Haaretz, Merkel was furious. "How dare you?" she said. "You are the one who has disappointed us. You haven't made a single step to advance peace."

UK Uncut inspires US groups to attack cuts and tax avoidance

RBS to be focus of latest British demonstrations, while activists' counterpart will target Bank of America

Hundreds of activists in the US are planning to take part in a day of direct action in a move inspired by Britain's fast growing protest group.

US Uncut groups have sprung up from New York to Hawaii in the last three weeks and activists will demonstrate against government cuts and corporate tax avoidance in more than 50 cities on Saturday (Today).

The US protest movement was inspired by UK Uncut, an anti-cuts campaign group that has temporarily closed scores of high street stores accused of tax avoidance since it was set up five months ago.

Last week it staged demonstrations in more than 30 bank branches. On Saturday hundreds of activists across the country hope to stage demonstrations inside more than 40 branches of the Royal Bank of Scotland.

"We spent billions bailing out RBS, yet now the government are cutting our services," said Rosa Brown, 42, from UK Uncut. "They are letting RBS get away with the mistakes they caused and rewarding themselves with massive bonuses but punishing us."
